Serengeti Safari and Migration

This example program takes you in search for exceptional game viewing at the time when huge herds of wildebeests, zebra and gazelles migrate and spread over the southern short grass plains of the Serengeti National Park where they give birth to thousands of calves. Calving attracts a lot of predators so it is possible to see predator action.  You will also explore stunning Tarangire wilderness,  take a tour of the legendary East African Rift Valley, descend into the wildlife-laden depths of the Ngorongoro crater and spot lions, elephants, cheetah and many more before unwinding in the serene white sandy beaches of Zanzibar’s coasts. In July/August migration season,  the focus of the safari shifts from southern grassplains to central and north Serengeti when migratory herds move into the Grumeti on their way to Maasai Mara

Arrive in Arusha and transfer to your hotel, overnight at Planet lodge or similar

After an early breakfast your driver-guide picks you from your hotel. You drive 2.5hrs southwest of Arusha town to the magnificent but less visited Tarangire National Park. The journey is on tarmacked road except for last 10kms where it turns to gravel road.
Covering an area of 2600 square kilometers, Tarangire is a vast wild landscape haired by gigantic baobab trees, acacia bush, plains, swamps and rocky outcrops. The main feature of the Park is the permanent Tarangire River which attracts many animals in the dry as well as rainy season. Wildlife viewing here is superb and this small park actually experiences its own migration – though incomparable to Serengeti’s annual spectacle. You eat lunch at a picnic site while enjoying panoramic views of the Tarangire River valley. Elephants (huge herds!) are guaranteed here together with other cats and if you are lucky a wild dog. Tarangire is also excellent for birds of prey and provides habitat for other animal populations including migratory zebras and wildebeests, buffalo, giraffe, impala, eland, hartebeest, greater and lesser kudu, jackal and warthogs. Dinner and overnight Tarangire Sopa Lodge or similar

We drive through the Oldupai Gorge- a UNESCO world Heritage site where archaeologists discovered the fossil remains of the earliest human – Zinjathropus- providing most known evidence of the human evolution. You will explore the valley and eat lunch at a picnic site and look for lions, cheetah and leopards while heading to your private tented camp for overnight.
